Dr. Kisugi's office
This scene is a continuation of the Shizue's session
with Dr. Kisugi. Dr. Kisugi has just asked Shizue to
describe the monsters that pursue her mother. Shizue
does not answer instead she is recalling something
that is much more horrifying, her mother passionately
kissing another man in the front seat of a car. Dr.
Kisugi feels no empathy for Shizue. Harshly she tells
Shizue that if she can not deal with this revelation
then she will never be cured.
Miss. Wakasa is reading from her daughters journal.
Shizue is describing how horrified and disgusted she
felt after seeing her mother with another man. In her
minds eye Miss. Wakasa recalls the encounter with her
daughter later that evening. Shizue, head down and shoulders hunched, angrily tells Miss. Wakasa not to touch
Miss. Wakasa is reading another entry, this event is
probably new to her. Shizue's boyfriend has
apparently dumped her and Shizue is distraught. The
reason for his ending their relationship is that
apparently he tried to force himself on her and she
Dr. Kisugi's office
Dr. Kisugi is talking to Shizue about how she reacted
to seeing her mother with someone other than her
father. Shizue has experienced some sort of mental
trauma that prevents her from being in anyway
intimate with others. This phobia horrifies Shizue,
sobbing she tell Dr. Kisugi that she wants to break
her conditioning. Dr. Kisugi tells her that if she
does not quit crying she will never overcome her
fear. Sounding very sure of herself Shizue declares
that she can do what it takes to overcome her fears.
Amused Dr. Kisugi asks why she is so confident.
Shizue replies that she had learned confidence after
she cut herself off from her mother, every day she
had holed up in her room and done nothing but study.
Her diligence resulted in better grades and
acceptance to her favored school. Dr. Kisugi
acknowledges this stating that maybe Shizue is strong
enough. Shizue has just signed her death sentence by
showing strength of character to Dr. Kisugi.
