View Full Version : Religion + Movie = A good movie?

There are some movies that are really good when they have religion in them. An example is Constantine. I loved the movie. I want a sequel, but it would probably suck. But does religion in a movie make it good?

No. A good plot does.

Unless it generates enough Hype.

The Passion had both.

The Passion had Mel Gibson and tons of blood; aparrently he learned a lot from directing Braveheart, which had no trouble conquering the theaters as well as the critics.

I find that religious themes work better when they're underlying and covert concepts, rather than part of the actual story. Consider The Matrix for instance; tons of philosophical undertones (like the story of Jesus) cleverly masked by Wo Ping's brilliant martial art's choreography.

Hmm...that really reminds me to watch The Matrix again. But it feels like whenever I watch a movie I get addicted to it like it's a drug (I've never actually taken a drug). Like Constantine...I've watched that like everyday since I got it.

I'm amazed at how much replayability The Matrix really has. I saw it three or four times when it first came out and I thought I got the most out of it already, but come my last year in high school I began to understand what it was all about and I realized how much the 2nd and 3rd really sucked :D

I haven't seen The Matrix in like in years so I don't remember anything of the movie and I don't have it. I think I might want to buy it.

I don't own it either; I've only seen it on HBO, TBS, and at school.

I don't have HBO, I haven't seen it on TBS, and my school sucks so we don't get to see The Matrix...I only saw it a few times at a few friends houses.

It's sitting here in my room. All three of them, and the Animatrix.

Hmm...I haven't watched the Animatrix in a while either, but I think I'd rather watch The Matrix. Wait. Is the entire trilogy for sale in one package?

They're selling an "ultimate" collection that has 10 DVDs of anything related to The Matrix.

Sweet, but that must cost a ton of money. Money is something that I don't have.

I think it was under $70 at Overstock. I was going to get it, but... I have other things to buy.

I don't have $70...I have no money at all. I guess spending all of my money on THAW was still worthwhile.

If the plot and characters are good- then the movie is good. Religion is a good base for a history of fighting- and most people are familar with it.

10 disks!? I understand the three movies and the Animatrix, but what the heck would they need 6 other disks for? You can only have so many director's commentries, "making of"s, and deleted scenes. I wonder what else is on there...

I'm guessing something completely unrelated to the movie.

You know, that honestly wouldn't surprise me. I wonder if this will sell good at all, the Matrix property isn't what it used to be. I can only imagine hardcore fans being interested (or in other words people who could play "Enter the Matrix" to completion). Still, if this is the only dvd set out there that contains all three movies, it may have some chance.

I think there is a dvd set that contains all three movies and nothing else. I want to get that.
