The number seven has a variety of meanings in today's society. For most, it's considered a lucky number and many RPGers consider the 7th Final Fantasy game to be the best ever. In the Reactor's case, it doesn't simply indicate our 7th new design; it also represents the most advanced version of the site. What started as a small, one page site in June of 1999 is now going on to its tenth year in 2009. We've had our share of tough times; from the numerous migrations, forum mishaps, and more recently the long layoff in development. But that's enough about the past; all of it is behind us and it's time to move on. It's an honor to welcome you to the rebirth of the RPG Reactor.
Rebirth is really the most fitting word to describe this new and improved version. The only things that were kept from the old site were the reviews, cheats, and images; everything else is completely new. We've moved to a new and better host and best of all, we are now powered by Joomla, which is easily one of the best content management systems available out there. This new system opens up so many possibilities that it's difficult even for me to explore them all. Its modular design makes it incredibly easy to add new features and expand upon existing ones. Backed by a bustling development community, there's no shortage of new things we can tack on to the site as they come to mind.
What I'm hoping will bring not only more visitors, but also content is our shift to a community-oriented approach. Now users themselves can contribute anything to the site, whether it's a simple comment, game review, cheats, or images. I know there are quite a few people out there dying to give something to the site and now not only is it possible, but highly encouraged. Of course it won't be a complete free-for-all, all new submissions will have to be approved by members of the staff before they are published on the site.
I'm hoping that all of this 'user' talk isn't leaving some of you feeling a little uneasy; you normally don't have to sign up to enjoy a website and here at the Reactor, you won't have to. If you're just browsing and don't feel like contributing, that's just fine; every part of the site will be open to you. The Reactor has always been a resource that anybody can peruse without being bombarded with ads or other solicitations and I'm happy to say that it remains that way.
And as always, any input or issues you may have about the new site would be welcome. I am committed to making the Reactor the best it can be and that this is simply the beginning of something big. This site will continue to grow from here and with your help, become one of the premier resources for RPGers worldwide.
Most you may not remember the made a promise long ago to the few, but loyal fans of the RPG Reactor that always reminds me of a quote from Final Fantasy VIII:
" I'll be waiting... for you... so... If you come here... you'll find me. I promise. "
I hope to continue to make good on that promise.
