Link battles in the dark...as a wolf?

As you might be able to guess, Twilight Princess is another game with one of the most cliche story concepts of all time, a battle between light and dark. Not only that, but this is a Zelda game so if you have played through any other Zelda game (with the exception of Majora's Mask), you know that you'll be fighting Ganondorf in the end. I have to say that even with the cliche story and fighting Ganondorf, this is one amazing game. It is actually rather unique as well. Usually in the beginning of each Zelda game, you have to sit through this long story about the legendary hero, but in this installment of Zelda there is not one. If you've never played a Zelda game before, you will have no trouble with this game. I really hope you have played one before because if you haven't, you are really missing out. The best part of this game though is this...adult Link is back!!! He's been lost since Ocarina of Time, but now he has returned in this amazing adventure.

Do you remember The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past? If you do you might remember a mirror that could transport you through the light and dark worlds. This is where that battle between light and dark worlds first began. You could call Twilight Princess a direct sequel to that, but I wouldn't. Twilight Princess is a whole different story. Though the light and dark story is rather cliche, Twilight Princess makes it seem amazing. This Zelda game even goes back and touches upon the mirror from A Link To The Past. That is a little spoiler for you.

The real story starts off with Link being arranged to deliver a package to Hyrule, but he hits a snag. Ilia, the daughter of the mayor of Ordon, finds that Epona has an injury on her. She is quick to draw a conclusion that Link was jumping fences with Epona. Ilia takes Epona and gets kidnapped by creatures from the twilight. Link himself is dragged into the twilight and as soon as he is, he turns into a wolf and is put in a jail cell. Another character from the twilight, Midna, helps you get out to reveal that all of Hyrule is covered in twilight. Midna transports you back to the spring in Ordon. Even though you exited the twilight, you remain a wolf. Where the story goes from there, I'll let you find out for yourself.

The gameplay makes the 8 hours seem like 2. From the moment you pick up that controller, you will be addicted. It is as simple as that. You will fight a variety of enemies. Some of them you will fight in the light world, some you will fight in the dark world, and even some you will fight in both. The AI in the game is just as good as it should be. When an enemy's back is turned to you, they don't magically know you're there. If you're attacking one monster and another one is around, you will be fighting both. The controls are very simple. Even more simple than in Windwaker. There are many techniques that you will learn from a golden wolf in the game. Two of the techniques you have seen in Windwaker, but these techniques are much simpler to use. The hours will go by while you play it.

The graphics in Twilight Princess are simply stunning. You can see the individual grass blades, the water sparkles in the sun, and you can even see the textures on everything. Twilight Princess could very possibly have the best graphics of any game for the Gamecube.

The sounds of the game can be compared the "Sounds of the Rainforest" CDs you see in stores. The sounds are just that realistic. The soundtrack is just as amazing. It was very well composed and will help make Twilight Princess more memorable.

The only problem I had with the game was the replay ability. Though after you play the game once you will want to play it again, there is nothing different in the game. You don't get an alternate costume, you don't get a new item, you get nothing. It is just the same thing. But considering it's the only downfall of the game, I'd still say that it's one of the best Zelda games to date.

Highs: Mindblowing visuals, addicting gameplay, awesome sound effects
Lows: Not very replayable
Bottom Line: You'll never want to put down the contoller. Every person who owns a Gamecube or a Wii, should add this game to their collection.
